BIRTHDAY PARTIES
The First Engagement for the Gardens
My musings…
I planned to share different content in our September newsletter but given that something very exciting happened this past weekend, I am changing course!
Last Friday Mike and I traveled to Ohio to see my parents and my brother as the nostalgia itch persuaded us to take a trip to Cedar Point, one of the country’s largest amusement parks.
Every summer while growing up, my family would spend a weekend at Lake Erie, swimming for countless hours in the lake and enjoying a full day riding rollercoasters at Cedar Point. It was one of the only places each member of my family could agree on for a vacation, so it became an annual tradition. (And as I get older, I realize the two-hour drive from Columbus—versus a cross-country road trip or having to board a flight with two squabbling kids—was a good incentive for my parents to keep going back.)
Only this time, excitement from the rollercoasters paled in comparison to one monumental moment that took place on the shores of Lake Erie: Mike proposed to me!
After taking a mid-day break from the heat and the rides, my parents, brother, Mike, and I decided to stroll along the beach before dinner. As the sun was just beginning to lower for the evening and the dinner bells were ringing (not literally), I turned around to find Mike kneeling on one knee, asking me to marry him.

It was such a surreal moment. I was shocked, elated, humbled, and loved. Mike was so thoughtful to include my family and to propose in a place very sentimental to me. Our family and friends near and far have been incredibly supportive and enthusiastic, as well.
Aside from my own personal enthusiasm for this next chapter, our engagement serves as a good reminder at just how special of a time this is for other people who are also planning their own weddings and gatherings and who may consider our venue for their special celebration.
It reaffirms our commitment to curate a space where people feel welcomed to connect, manifest their dream festivities, and receive excellent customer service.
I feel grateful to revel in my personal season of wedding planning while simultaneously helping others to experience their own version of extraordinary.
Updates for TheGoWM…
August was a welcomed slow month for us at The Gardens of Weber Manor. We’re at that point in the business process where we’re close to launching but have a few more things to really make the space feel special.
Last month we:
-
Created a Pinterest page (follow along!);
-
Connected with vendor partners, including a catering and production company, tent company, photographers, and event planners; and
-
Finished the kitchen in the guest house/couples’ suite!
This month, we are:
-
Starting work again with our landscape designer, Anderson Landscaping, to add in approximately 700 hundred more plants to the gardens;
-
Building up natural hedging to separate our house from the event space, allowing the venue to feel more intimate;
-
Finishing up the renovation of the guest house/couples’ suite so it will be ready to use for event hosts; and
-
Drawing up designs to better incorporate the stables into the event space.

“You will find that most times you have a vision of what it is that you want to accomplish and that’s most important. It allows you to work backwards and make cuts and changes that will still reflect the overall outcome you wish to achieve. What good is splurging on one particular item if it doesn’t result in the overall outcome you were trying to create?
